From printable designs.
Hello everyone and Merry Christmas! If you are reading this next year, happy belated Christmas. If it’s close to July, I wish you a wonderful wintery celebration if you live in the Southern Hemisphere, or a summery splendid celebration in the North…
Happy day wherever you are.
Over the past year, I’ve developed a slight case of shiny object syndrome. Fortunately, when paired with my obsession with Adobe InDesign, it led to the creation of seven Christmassy crafty items. Some are slightly more straightforward than others, but hopefully it will give you a few fun and cost effective ideas for creating your own Christmas gifts. They are great for last minute, personal and creative projects and they are cheap and cheerful too.
These are all inspired by Violetta’s musical world. I’ve included some downloadable templates and I have designs here, but I’m sure you could come up with your own concepts too. It’s an easy way to create that personal touch, and I shall do my best to explain all instructions as succinctly as possible.
I will also try very hard not to go off on tangents talking about flying cows wearing tutus.
With that in mind, I've created a list of Christmassy crafty creations from digital printables. You can find out more about each item by clicking on the link. I've included some free templates and you can buy the items already printed, packaged and shipped to you by visiting our shop.
Item number 1: Letter writing sets.
Creating your own personalised notepaper, stickers and envelopes is easier—and cheeper—than you think. I also created these little wallets out of manilla folders, scrap paper and bake paper (unorthodox, but pleasingly textured and crunchy sounding). Otherwise, you can create these little kits by adding a header card.
Item number 2: Gift tags and bookmarks.
The gift tags and bookmarks above are super simple, and a nice way to personalise a bookish gift. I always think home baking makes a lovely present and I'm sure the musicians or music teachers in your life would love them too.
Item number 3: Framed prints.
I use adobe fresco to create the drawings for the Violetta books. I also use adobe photoshop for creating the repeat-patterns and gold effects, and then I use InDesign to create a finished design. However, you can do something similar using your own sketches and a program like Canva.
Item number 4: DIY Mask kits.
I love making and wearing Venetian style masks. When I discovered how easy it was to make them from cardboard, this idea seemed like a great gift. It provides entertainment over the school holidays, and let's face it. What job isn't more fun while wearing a mask?
Item number 5: Christmas cards, stickers and gift boxes.
You can design your own wrapping paper quite easily these days. That same pattern can be turned into cardboard and these little boxes personalise any gift. Christmas cards are also so simple to create from your drawings and art work. Adding sticker bows and labels makes the envelopes fun too.
There you have it. Five Christmassy craft creations from printable designs that can be personalised, made at the last minute and add some holiday fun.
